French seams are really neat and useful especially when you don’t have an over-lock machine/serger.
In this tutorial, i show you how to stitch this kind of seam finish. It’s usually best on non-bulky fabrics like chiffon, silk etc.
Here’s the video tutorial:
- Place 2 pieces of fabric, right sides facing out, and do a straight stitch. Make sure you’re using only half of your seam allowance. Eg, if your seam allowance is 1”, then stitch 1/2”.
- After stitching, trim a bit of the excess fabric, making it about 1/4”.
- Now turn the fabric onto the wrong side and iron.
- Fold the fabric again, this time right sides facing together. Stitch, using the other half of your seam allowance.
Iron one last time, and your done! That’s how you do a french seam.
