Making clothes is fun, since you get to create your own designs, make mistakes and learn from them. In this whole process however, there are those little annoying things that happen, which make you want to pull your hair out! Without further ado,
Here are 10 things we all, or at least i, hate about sewing.
Yep, you know when your carefully pining fabric together, then boom! A sharp pain in your finger. How annoying is that? All the wrong words just want to burst out of your mouth!
Wrongly cutting your fabric
You’re about to stitch your pieces, then you notice. You thought you cut it right, or you were just distracted. Now you have to go back and cut again. Then the horror, you don’t have any extra fabric. You now have to come up with a way to finish up, and hope the clothes still look professionally made.
Forgetting your tools
”I need scissors, oh shoot! I left them at the ironing table”. You get them, then, ”I need pins” Boom, you left them in your room as you were making a quick alteration. I know the struggle.
People that actually live with you keep complaining about the messy floor. Pieces of thread everywhere, bunched up fabric and dust. You sew so much you forget to clean up. If your guilty say ‘I’.
Having to clean up
If it was up to you, you wouldn’t mind the mess as much. Or your too lazy to clean up since all your energy is taken up sewing! But when you do clean up, it ends up sparkling….. then the cycle begins all over again!((
Finished bobbin thread.
This should have been the first. It really is one of the most annoying, anger inducing thing to happen while sewing. You were probably on a roll, feeling unstoppable, then you finish with a back-stitch and go to cut the thread, just to realize, there’s nothing to cut! Damn. This is where you really bite your tongue.
Noisy sewing machine
You love to sew, but you probably also care about the people around you. So you try to stitch slowly, especially if it’s late at night. This doesn’t work though, soon you’re back to your old ways. As sewers, especially if you’ve had a bit of experience, slow sewing sucks the fun out of it. Unless it’s a really delicate section.
You know one of those days when you don’t know what to stitch, or what to wear, or what to write?!? I just hit a creative block writing this….
You know what I’am talking about. You thought the garment would look oh so magical, since you put alot of thought into it. But you finish the garment and its less than tasteful. This is one of the lowest points in sewing, but that’s how to tell the difference between the real sewers, and the rest. We persist, and try again. Is that motivation enough? Get on with it.
Less than pleasant clients
You know them. ”Oh, is this the one i chose?” or ”I can’t decide, chose for me” Then you chose(an action you’ll soon regret) and it doesn’t really please them. Others run with your money, and a host of other sad stuff. There are some awesome clients though. They know exactly what they want, and are willing to pay for it. These, when you find them, are keepers, and you do your best to please them.
So, that’s it for me on things i hate about sewing. I’am sure there are a few more. Do you relate with any or none of these? Did i leave something out? Please let me know down below. Thanks for reading, and have an awesome day.
